The Details

  • Microwave-safe stainless steel base. remove lid, place in the microwave, reheat and eat. No transferring to a separate dish.
  • Oven safe. Place directly into the oven for baking, roasting or reheating. The stainless steel body handles oven temperatures without warping, cracking or releasing chemicals into food.
  • Freezer safe. Fill, seal and freeze. The LFGB-certified silicone seal stays flexible at freezer temperatures and maintains its seal integrity through repeated freeze and thaw cycles.
  • Electropolished inside and out. Both surfaces are electropolished, not just the interior. Turmeric, tomato, balsamic and curry leave no stain and no residual smell after a dishwasher cycle.
  • No powder coat, no paint, no non-stick layer. Nothing to chip, peel or unknown toxins shedding into food over time. The steel surface is clean and hygienic.
  • LFGB-certified silicone seal and vent plug. The silicone gasket and vent plug have been independently lab tested and certified to the German food safety standards, the most stringent international food-contact silicone standard available.
  • Tempered glass lid. Handles thermal shock from freezer to microwave without cracking. Lets you see what is inside without opening the container.
  • Leak-resistant under normal conditions. The silicone seal creates a reliable closure for fridge storage, transit and packed lunches. For fully liquid soups or sauces carried on an angle for extended periods, carry upright for best results.
  • Nesting design. Smaller-sized containers stack inside larger ones when empty, storing in the space of one large container.

The Bigger Picture

  • The average Australian household replaces plastic food storage containers every one to two years through staining, warping and lids that no longer seal properly. These three containers are designed to end that replacement cycle permanently.
  • 304-grade stainless steel does not warp in the dishwasher, does not absorb odours, does not stain from acidic foods and does not shed particles of any kind into food. The container bought today will work the same in ten years.
  • There is no plastic on any food-contact surface. The steel body is non-reactive, the glass lid is inert, and the silicone seal is LFGB-certified. No BPA, no BPS, no PFAS, no microplastics. Nothing between the food and the container raises a question.
  • Glass containers with plastic lids solve the visibility problem but introduce a new one. Plastic lids crack, perish and harbour bacteria in the seal over time. The tempered glass lid with silicone seal removes the plastic component entirely while keeping the microwave capability and visibility that make glass containers worth choosing.
  • At the end of a useful life measured in decades, the steel body and glass lid are both fully recyclable through standard kerbside recycling. Nothing goes to landfill.
  • Plastic-free packaging throughout, with no bubble wrap and no plastic inserts.
  • Australian-owned. Every order is packed and dispatched from Melbourne.

Are these stainless steel food storage containers microwave safe?

The 304-grade stainless steel body is microwave safe. This is the capability that separates these containers from standard stainless steel food storage containers, which cause arcing in conventional microwaves because of their geometry and surface finish. The electropolished interior and the rounded rectangular form of the Greenvyne containers are specifically engineered to work safely in a conventional microwave.

To microwave, remove the glass lid and place the steel body in the microwave uncovered or with a microwave-safe cover.

For the full explanation of why standard stainless steel is not microwave-safe and how the geometry and finish of these containers change that, read our guide on whether you can microwave stainless steel.

Can I use these containers in the oven?

The 304-grade stainless steel body is oven safe and can go directly into the oven for baking, roasting and reheating. Remove the glass lid before placing in the oven. The glass lid has not yet been independently tested for oven use at sustained high temperatures and should not be used in the oven until that testing is complete.

For oven use, place the steel body in the oven uncovered. Once removed from the oven, allow to cool before replacing the glass lid and silicone seal for storage or transport. The steel retains heat well and will remain hot to the touch for several minutes after removal.

What is the best microwave safe lunch box or food container in Australia?

The best microwave safe food container for daily use combines four practical qualities. It needs to go from freezer to microwave without cracking or warping. The lid needs to allow steam to vent safely during reheating. The food contact surfaces need to be free from BPA, BPS, PFAS and coatings that degrade under heat. And it needs to be genuinely durable for daily use over years, not months.

The Greenvyne stainless steel food storage containers with tempered glass lids meet all four. The borosilicate glass lid handles thermal shock from freezer to microwave. The vent plug releases steam safely during reheating. The 304-grade stainless steel body and LFGB-certified silicone seal contain no coatings and no plastic on any food contact surface. And the electropolished interior and exterior maintain the same surface quality after years of daily dishwasher use as on day one. Available in three sizes from 600ml to 2900ml, shipping Australia-wide from Melbourne.

How do stainless steel containers with glass lids compare to glass containers with plastic lids?

Both solve the same problem. Both let you see what is inside. Both can go in the microwave. The difference is in what the lid is made from and what that means over time.

Glass containers with plastic lids are the more common option. The glass body is non-reactive and safe, but the plastic lid introduces BPS and PFAS risk at the seal point where plastic contacts food under pressure. Plastic lids also crack, warp and perish over time, making the glass container unusable before the glass itself fails. And plastic clip mechanisms generate microplastic particles at the contact points through repeated use.

Stainless steel containers with tempered glass lids remove the plastic component from the lid entirely. The seal is LFGB-certified silicone rather than plastic, which is tested for migration under heat and stress on the finished product. The glass lid is tempered borosilicate that handles thermal shock. Nothing plastic touches the food or the seal. The container is heavier than a glass-only option but significantly more durable for daily use, travel and freezer-to-microwave transitions where glass bodies are more vulnerable to impact damage.

Can you use stainless steel food storage containers for meal prep and freezing?

Yes. The Greenvyne rectangular stainless steel containers are designed specifically for the full meal prep and batch cooking cycle. Prep and portion on Sunday, seal and refrigerate or freeze, then reheat directly in the microwave during the week without transferring to another container. The three sizes handle different stages of that cycle. The 600ml suits individual portions, the 1500ml handles family meal prep portions and the 2900ml covers full batch cooking volumes like a large pot of soup or a tray of roasted vegetables.

For freezing specifically, fill to within 1cm of the top to allow for liquid expansion, seal with the LFGB silicone lid and freeze. The silicone seal stays flexible at freezer temperatures and maintains its seal integrity through repeated freeze and thaw cycles. The stainless steel body does not crack or become brittle in the freezer, the way glass containers occasionally do under repeated thermal cycling.

What size food storage containers do I need for meal prep?

The right size depends on whether you are portioning for one person or batch cooking for a family. For individual meal prep portions, a 600ml container covers a single serve of most meals. At 600ml the container is also the right size for a work lunch, overnight oats or a single serve of leftover soup.

For family meal prep and larger batch portions, the 1500ml handles four to five serves of pasta, rice or a generous salad. The 2900ml is the batch cooking container for a full tray of lasagne, a large roast vegetable portion or a week's worth of granola that goes straight from the oven into the freezer.

Most households find the three-piece set covers every practical size they need. The containers nest inside each other when empty so storage space is not a consideration even with all three in the kitchen.

Are these food storage containers airtight?

The LFGB-certified silicone seal creates a reliable closure for refrigerator storage, freezer storage and transit. For dry goods like grains, nuts, seeds and pantry staples the seal is airtight under normal conditions. For moist foods and liquids carried upright the seal is leak-resistant and maintains freshness in the fridge without odour transfer to other foods.

For fully liquid soups or sauces carried on an angle for extended periods, upright transport gives the best result. The containers are designed for the fridge, freezer, oven and microwave cycle rather than for carrying liquid-filled containers sideways in a bag.
