Leak-resistant bento snack box with fruit for healthy school snacks

Stainless Steel Snack Containers Built for Real Life Outside the Kitchen

The snack container that fits into a kindy bag on Monday, a work bag on Wednesday and a hiking pack on Saturday is doing a different job than the one designed purely for the pantry shelf. Our 2-compartment stainless steel snack containers are sized for that reality. Compact enough for any bag. Sturdy enough that the lid stays on when it gets thrown in. Non-porous enough that the dip from Friday does not haunt Monday's crackers.

Why Stainless Steel Outperforms Plastic and Silicone for Food Storage

Plastic containers degrade. They scratch, stain and eventually leach the very chemicals they were supposed to keep out of your food. Silicone is more stable but stays soft and flexible in ways that cause lids to lose their seal over the years of use. Then there is glass that is way too heavy and often has plastic lids that could leach, and almost always break after prolonged use. Food-grade 304 stainless steel does neither. It is rigid, non-porous, completely inert and does not change with age. The container you buy today will work identically in ten years. That is not a feature. That is just the nature of the material.

A Food Storage System That Grows With You

A full plastic-free kitchen system will be joining our existing snack boxes and nesting set. Leak-proof sandwich boxes that can fit large-sized bread, generously sized leak-proof dip pot sets, stainless steel lunch boxes, leakproof snack boxes, an all-in-one oven and microwave-safe storage and meal prep containers are all arriving soon. The idea is simple: build the collection once with products that are worth keeping, and add to it over time rather than replacing it. Every piece works with every other piece. No mismatched lids. No drawer full of things you meant to throw out.

What stainless steel food storage does Greenvyne sell?

Our current food storage range includes a 2-compartment stainless steel snack container available in four colours, and a set of three nesting stainless steel food storage containers with leak-resistant glass-like silicone lids in three sizes. Launching soon: leak-proof stainless steel sandwich box, leak-proof dip pot sets, stainless steel lunch box, all-in-one oven and microwave-safe food storage and meal prep container sets and snack box sets. All products are made from food-grade 304 stainless steel, LFGB Silicone and are BPA-free, phthalate-free and dishwasher safe. We are Australian-owned and ship nationwide from Melbourne.

Are stainless steel food containers safe for storing all types of food?

Yes. Food-grade 304 stainless steel is one of the most chemically stable food contact materials available. It does not react with acidic foods like citrus, tomatoes or vinegar-based dressings under normal use conditions. It does not leach chemicals into food when used at room temperature or in the fridge. It contains no BPA, phthalates, coatings or dyes. The one practical note: not all stainless steel is suitable for use in a microwave oven. Our upcoming microwave-safe food storage range uses specific materials and a uniquely engineered design rated for microwave use and will be clearly labelled with usage instructions.

What is the difference between the snack container and the nesting food containers?

The 2-compartment bento snack container is designed for portability. It is compact, lightweight and fits into a school bag, work bag or any standard lunch box. The two compartments keep snacks separated, so dips stay away from crackers, and fruit does not bleed onto cheese. It is ideal for morning tea, after-school snacks and on-the-go eating.

The nesting food storage set of three is designed for fridge and kitchen storage as well as transport. The three containers nest inside each other for compact storage, and their leak-resistant glass-like silicone lids make them suitable for soups, sauces, nuts and cut fruits. They work as both small meal prep containers and as an everyday food storage system that replaces plastic Tupperware.

Can Greenvyne food storage containers go from oven to fridge to microwave?

Our current stainless steel food containers (Nesting set and Snack box) are not suitable for microwave or oven use. Stainless steel reflects microwave energy and should never go in a microwave, and our current lids are not rated for oven temperatures. They are, however, freezer safe and fridge safe, and work well for cold storage and transport.

The full oven-to-freezer-to-fridge-to-microwave-to-table system is exactly what our upcoming food storage range is being designed around. Our new containers will feature glass lids with silicone seals and vents rated for microwave and oven use, meaning you can prep and store in the same container, move it from the freezer to the fridge to defrost overnight, reheat directly in the microwave or oven the next day, and bring it straight to the table. One container. Zero transfers. No reheating in plastic.

It is the kind of system that sounds simple, but most kitchenware brands do not deliver because it requires every component, the container body, the lid, and the seal, to be specifically engineered and rated for the full temperature range. We are building it that way from the start, so it'll be the only container you'll even need.

Are the containers leak-proof?

Our nesting food storage containers feature leak-resistant silicone lids designed to create a secure seal for everyday fridge storage and transport. They handle most foods, including soups and liquids, well under normal conditions. Our 2-compartment snack container is leak-resistant for dips and moist foods at the compartment level.
As with all food containers, we recommend carrying them upright rather than on their side for best results with liquid-heavy contents. Our upcoming lunch box range is being designed specifically with leak-proof seals and will be clearly rated when it launches.

Do you make stainless steel lunch boxes?

Stainless steel lunch boxes are coming to the Greenvyne range in the next few months. In the meantime, our 2-compartment snack container works exceptionally well as a lunchbox insert alongside other items in a standard lunch bag, and our nesting food storage containers are a practical lunchbox alternative for adults. What is the best reusable snack container for school lunches in Australia?

The best reusable snack container for school is one that fits standard Australian lunch bags, survives daily dishwasher cycles and does not absorb the smell of Monday's snack by Friday. Our 2-compartment stainless steel snack container meets all three. It is sized to fit most Australian school lunch bags and is a direct replacement for single-use zip-lock bags, cheese & cracker packs and plastic snack containers. The two compartments handle the classic school snack combination: crackers and dip, fruit and cheese, veggies and hummus. Available in four colours to last the full week.

Are stainless steel food containers dishwasher safe?

Yes. All Greenvyne stainless steel food containers are dishwasher safe. The stainless steel body can go on either rack, but the top rack is recommended for small containers. The silicone and glass lids are also dishwasher safe, but last longer with top-rack placement. If you live in a hard water area, dry the containers and silicone with a cloth immediately after the cycle to prevent water spotting on the surface. Mild/Eco dishwasher detergent is recommended, but standard detergent is also fine. Our containers are designed for daily dishwasher use over years of regular meals. Read our complete product care guide to keep Greenvyne products in top shape for years to come.

We are an Australian-owned small business, and all orders are dispatched from Melbourne, Australia. Is stainless steel better than plastic or glass for food storage?

For most households, food-grade stainless steel is the most practical long-term choice. Here is how it compares honestly.

Plastic degrades. It scratches, stains from tomato sauce and turmeric,
absorbs odours, and eventually leaches plasticisers into food, particularly when heated or scratched. Even BPA-free plastic carries other plasticiser concerns that are still being researched. And then there are the lids. Plastic lids warp in the dishwasher, crack at the hinge, stop sealing properly, and send you back to the shops for replacements. Most people end up with a drawer of containers and a separate pile of lids that no longer match anything.

Glass is a better material than plastic for chemical safety, and it is microwave-safe, which most stainless steel is not. But glass is heavy, genuinely fragile and not practical for anything that moves. Packing a glass container into a school, work bag, or hiking pack introduces real breakage risk. And the irony of most glass container systems: they come with plastic lids. Those lids stain, warp, crack and mismatch over time, just like any other plastic lid, which means you end up with the same drawer problem you were trying to solve.

Food-grade 304 stainless steel is non-porous, completely inert, unbreakable under normal conditions and does not change with age or use. It does not stain. It does not smell. The lids are made to stay matched to their container. Not all stainless steel containers are microwave-safe, which is a genuine limitation worth knowing about upfront. But for fridge storage, packed cold lunches, snacks, and anything you are transporting, it outperforms both plastic and glass on durability, hygiene and long-term value.

If oven and microwave-safe storage is something you need, our upcoming range of food storage containers with glass lids is being designed specifically for that use case and will be available in the coming months.

Can the nesting containers be used for meal prep?

Partially, it depends on what you mean by meal prep.

Our current set of three nesting stainless steel containers comes in 110ml, 220ml and 400ml. Those sizes are genuinely useful for a range of everyday storage jobs: baby food portions, small soups and broths, condiments, dips, leftover pasta, sauces, snack-sized quantities of nuts or fruit, and small fridge items you want to keep separate and sealed. They nest inside each other when empty, which makes them compact and tidy to store.

What they are not is large enough for batch cooking or full meal prep in the traditional sense. A 400ml container holds roughly a single adult serve of pasta or rice. If you are prepping meals for multiple days or multiple people, you will run out of capacity quickly.

That is a gap we are addressing directly. Our upcoming range of microwave and oven-safe food storage containers with glass lids is being designed for proper meal prep use. Larger capacities, lids that are microwave and oven-rated, and a system built around the reality of cooking in bulk and reheating through the week. They will work alongside the nesting containers rather than replacing them, one system for on-the-go and small storage, one for the fridge and oven.
