Can I use your stainless steel products in the microwave?

Most of our stainless steel products are not microwave-safe, as stainless steel can cause sparks and damage your microwave unless specifically designed for microwave use. Please check the individual product description page for detailed usage and care instructions.

Is this 20cm plate suitable for picky eaters?

Yes. Many parents of selective or sensory-sensitive eaters prefer this plate because of its high-polish finish and raised edges. It is also fully compatible with our Silicone Suction Pad, which provides a stable, secure base for children who find sliding plates overwhelming during mealtime.

Is Greenvyne dinnerware dishwasher safe?

Yes. All Greenvyne stainless steel products are dishwasher safe. We recommend placing items on the top rack where possible and avoiding prolonged exposure to high-temperature steam cycles, which can accelerate the discolouration of any stainless steel over time. Standard eco dishwasher detergent is fine. If you notice any water spotting after dishwashing, which can occur with hard water, a quick wipe with a dry cloth immediately after the cycle finishes will prevent it. Our products are designed for real daily use, which means daily dishwasher cycles are absolutely fine.

What size stainless steel plate is best for toddlers and kids in Australia?

For toddlers from around 12 months through to primary school age, a 20cm plate is the most practical size for daily use. It is large enough for a proper toddler meal, a protein, a vegetable portion and a carb, without the plate being so large that the food looks sparse and unappealing to a small child.

At 20cm, the plate also fits standard dishwasher racks without taking up disproportionate space, stacks compactly in a kitchen cupboard, and is light enough
for a toddler to carry to the table independently as they develop that skill.

For families who also want a divided plate option, where foods are kept separate for
picky eaters or sensory-sensitive children, the Greenvyne 22.7cm divided plate
provides three sections at a slightly larger diameter designed for a complete meal with multiple components.

Are stainless steel plates safe for babies and toddlers?

Yes. Food-grade 304 stainless steel is one of the safest materials for children's
dinnerware. It is completely inert; it does not leach chemicals into food, does not react with acidic foods like tomato or citrus, and does not degrade with age or repeated dishwasher use.

The Greenvyne 20cm plate has been independently lab-tested to EU heavy-metal migration limits and food contact standards. Naturally free from BPA, phthalate and lead across every food-contact surface.

For babies in the highchair stage, the plate is compatible with the Greenvyne
universal silicone suction pad which holds the plate in place during meals —
particularly useful during baby-led weaning when the plate is likely to be pushed,
thrown and tested repeatedly.

How do stainless steel plates compare to bamboo or melamine plates for kids?

The three most common alternatives to stainless steel for children's plates in Australia are plastic, bamboo-composite and melamine. Each has a significant practical disadvantage that stainless steel does not share.

Plastic plates warp in the dishwasher over time, stain from tomato-based sauces and absorb odours. Most need replacing within one to two years of daily use.

Bamboo-composite plates, commonly sold as eco-friendly alternatives, are typically made from bamboo fibre bound with melamine resin. They are not dishwasher safe at high temperatures, they scratch and absorb bacteria in the scratches, and the melamine component is a food safety concern at elevated temperatures.

Melamine plates are lightweight and unbreakable, but contain formaldehyde as part of the curing process. Australian food safety authorities advise against using melamine plates for hot food or with acidic foods.

304-grade stainless steel has none of these limitations. It does not warp, stain, scratch meaningfully or degrade with age. The same plate goes through a thousand dishwasher cycles and comes out in identical condition. The upfront cost is higher, and it is not microwave safe. Transfer food to a microwave-safe container to reheat, but for daily use, durability and food safety, it is the stronger choice.
